About

Paediatric and Adult Basic Life Support (CPR & Defibrillation) - Micro-Course This self-paced micro-course prepares nurses to confidently recognise and respond to cardiac arrest and airway emergencies in both adults and children, in line with New Zealand Basic Life Support guidelines and OSCE requirements. The course covers early recognition of cardiac arrest, high-quality CPR, safe and effective use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). You will learn correct compression depth and rate, ventilation techniques, and how to maintain situational awareness while leading and directing bystanders during an emergency. Short teaching videos and OSCE-style practice scenarios support hands-on learning, including Paediatric-specific considerations such as managing a child found in a prone position and demonstrating leadership, delegation, and clear verbalisation under pressure. This micro-course is ideal for nursing students, overseas nurses preparing for the NZ OSCE, and registered nurses wanting to refresh essential life-saving skills and build confidence in emergency response.
