About
Vital Signs - Micro-Course This self-paced micro-course focuses on accurate assessment and interpretation of vital signs as a foundation for recognising clinical deterioration in nursing practice. The course covers respiratory rate, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, and other key observations, with clear explanations of normal ranges across the lifespan. It also includes learning how to take an estimated systolic blood pressure when a full blood pressure reading is not immediately possible. Short teaching videos and practice scenarios support the application of theory to realistic clinical situations. Learners will build confidence in identifying abnormal findings, recognising early warning signs, and understanding when escalation of care is required in New Zealand healthcare settings. This micro-course is suitable for nursing students, overseas nurses preparing for the NZ OSCE, and registered nurses wanting to refresh essential assessment skills.
