About
Neurological Assessment - Stroke with Confusion (Micro-Course) This self-paced micro-course focuses on performing a structured neurological assessment for a patient who has experienced a stroke with associated confusion. The course covers the purpose of neurological assessment, the effects of frontal lobe stroke, and how to assess and document level of consciousness using the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). You will also learn how to assess limb strength and movement, recognise asymmetry or deterioration, and communicate findings clearly to the healthcare team. Short teaching videos demonstrate expected assessment techniques, including limb strength testing within OSCE timeframes. Practice scenarios allow you to apply GCS scoring and limb assessments in a realistic stroke context, with a strong focus on patient-centered explanations, safety, and escalation of care using New Zealand frameworks. This micro-course is ideal for nursing students, overseas nurses preparing for the NZ OSCE, and registered nurses wanting to build confidence in neurological assessment and stroke-related care.
